André den Exter (1966) is a lecturer in Health law at the Institute of Health Policy and Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands since 2002. André started studying Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam (1987) and holds a PhD in law. The title of his dissertation was ‘Health care lawmaking in Central and Eastern Europe. Review of a Legal-Theoretical Model’ (EUR 2002). In 2003, he was appointed as the liaison officer at the Czech Ministry of Health, coordinating the Public Health accession. For several years he has been working as a lecturer on European law at Radboud University, the Netherlands. He returned at Erasmus University in 2015. Since then, he is responsible for various health law courses on national, European and International health law issues. He is also the director of the annual summer school on health law and ethics organized by the Erasmus Observatory on Health law. In 2011-2012, he was appointed as visiting professor of International Health law at Antwerp University, Belgium. In 2014 he was granted a Jean Monnet chair on EU Health Law on behalf of the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme. As a chair, his research focuses on patient mobility and eHealth in the European Union.

Recently, he received a visiting professorship International and European Health Law at Danylo Medical University Lviv, Ukraine. His research and teaching activities include: health care and human rights, access to health care, pharmaceutical law, international and EU health law. He (co)edited several books and wrote various articles on health legal issues. His recent edited work is European Health Law, published by Maklu Press Antwerp (2017), a handbook covering the main aspects of health law from a European perspective.
