Expertise: Type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease


Denise Blanchfield currently placed on three separate divisions of the nursing register: Registered General Nurse, Registered Nurse Prescriber and Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner. She qualified as an RGN in 1992 from Mid Glamorgan School of nursing, progressed to Clinical Nurse Specialist with a higher diploma Diabetes Nursing from University College Dublin in 1998. She undertook Masters in Advanced Practice in 2006 and commenced practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner Diabetes in 2008. She worked at local and national level to promote nurse education, publish and research within the discipline of nursing with particular reference to diabetes management. She have been nurse lead for the HSE National Diabetes Programme from 2011-2013, developing a clinical pathway, supporting protocols, guidelines and job description for the Clinical Nurse Specialist roles which now assist to support the National Diabetes Cycle of Care. Her specialist area of interest in to strive towards the development of a combined Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease care delivery strategy to meet the needs of provider and participant in care and to this end she commenced her PhD in 2015.
