Dr. Md. Eaqub Ali is currently an Associate Professor of Nanobiotechnology at the University of Malaysia’s Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research Centre at Kuala Lumpur. Before being appointed to this position in February 2012, he was an Associate Professor and Head of Biochemistry at the BGC Trust Medical College and University of Science and Technology Chittagong in Bangladesh. Dr. Ali received his bachelor on Biochemistry from the University of Dhaka in 1998, Masters on chemistry from Concordia University at Montreal in 2004 and Ph.D. on Nanobiotechnology Engineering from the University of Malaysia Perlis in 2012.Dr. Ali has supervised 7 completed PhDs and 5 MScs and currently, his multidisciplinary research team has 7 Ph.D. and 2 Master candidates are ongoing. His team has secured >RM 2.5 million grants in the last 5 years and currently working to develop “Multicomponent System ” for food and water security detection. In the last five years, he has published 2 books, 1 chapter in book, 127 articles in top ranking Journals such as Nanotechnology, Desalination, Sensors and Actuators A, Food Chemistry, Journal of Food and Agricultural Chemistry, Food Analytical Methods, Meat Science, Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Food Additives and Contaminants-Part A, PLOS One and many more. He has also produced2 patents, 2 trademarks, 60 conference proceedings and presented 1 plenary, 2 keynotes and 16 invited lectures in prestigious conferences and universities. He received Gold Medal for the best researcher in the University of Malaysia Perlis in 2010; Gold and Silvers awards for bio-innovation in the Biomalaysia Exhibition 2011 and 2012, respectively. Dr. Ali’s research was spotted two times in the international science news. In 2015, his team won prestigious Atlas Award from Elsevier for high social impact publication in the journal, Desalination and in 2016, his article was featured in prestigious“ ACS Press Pac” on August 10, 2016. Currently, he is sitting in the editorial board of 3 international journals and editor-in-chief for a multi-authored book, “Preparation and Processing of Religious and Cultural Foods” by Elsevier. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), AOAC International (USA), International Association for Food Protection (USA), Malaysian Institute of Chemistry, Malaysian Nanotechnology Association and The Order of The Chemists of Quebec.
