Biography: Dr Joe Debattista is currently the Sexual Health, HIV & Viral Hepatitis Coordinator for the Metro North Hospital Health Service (Queensland Health) based at the Metro North Public Health Unit (Brisbane). He has managed a number of public health and health promotion initiatives including the development, implementation and evaluation of programs for the control of Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV and HCV infections in a range of key core transmitter groups. With twenty-seven years of experience in alcohol & drug, sexual health and blood-borne virus services, Dr Debattista has established a background in the assessment of issues, needs and gaps within health services and communities. He has worked collaboratively with diverse community and client groups including men who have sex with men (MSM), sex workers, injecting drug users, transgender, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, detached youth, indigenous people, as well a diverse range of government and community based organisations representing stakeholders from mental health, Alcohol and Drug Services, indigenous health and welfare, oral health, domiciliary and palliative care, education (primary to tertiary), adolescent health and welfare, and military health. He has a Bachelor of Science from University of QLD, Master of Science from Griffith University in Clinical Microbiology and Doctor of Philosophy from Queensland University of Technology. He is an adjunct Associate Professor with the School of Public Health, Queensland University of Technology and with the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Griffith University.,
