Dr. Pravin Mhatre retired as honorary professor of obstetrics and gynecology with 40 years tenure (1985 to 2015) at Seth G.S.Medical College. For over 4 decades Dr. Pravin Mhatre has made distinguished contribution to the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology, as a researcher, author, professor, teacher and social activist. These contributions may be categorized into four broad arenas; scholastic achievements, research, teaching and social responsibilities.

He has an excellent academic career with first rank, gold medals and distinction in all his postgraduate examinations. The highlight of his career being M.D. examination, where he was awarded special degree certificate, special rank of G ++++ and distinction. This being the record unsurpassed in 70 years of Mumbai University history. Dr. Pravin Mhatre was awarded many scholarships and prizes, the most prestigious being Prince of Wales gold medal. Postdoctoral research was done in the field of ovulation induction and partogram for three years under Mumbai University’s Pandit Bhagwandin Dube scholarship from 1979 to 1981. Dr. Pravin Mhatre has been a reviewer for many international journals and is on the editorial board of International Transplantation journal. Dr. Pravin Mhatre established the gynecological transplant faculty with government, and was registered as the “First Gynec Transplant Surgeon” in 2002.

Dr. Mhatre established the first government certified “Ovarian Transplant Centre”. He was instrumental in forming the guidelines and norms for ovarian transplant. In 2005 he established the “first Ovarian cryopreservation Bank”.This was preceded by almost 20 years of painstaking research in animal experiments, renal transplant observer-ship (Oxford and India), vascular and micro-vascular surgery, postmortem dissections at KEM and experiments at NIRRH .

Many awards have decorated him, the most important being “Civic felicitation by BMC with Mayor’s Gold medal, Diamond Jubilee felicitation by Seth G.S.Medical collage and felicitation by Mumbai Obst/Gyn. Society MOGS.

Dr. Pravin Mhatre has developed peritoneal Laparoscopic Vaginoplasty resulting in development of normal vagina. Using his own research projects Dr. Pravin Mhatre has engaged students and colleaguesas research assistants in all stages of the research, from design, analysis, presentations, and publications.

With the social vision and responsibility towards national health program Dr. Pravin Mhatre had arranged and conducted many laparoscopic tubal ligation camps in rural areas. These camps were arranged through KEM department from 1976 to 1983, for this meritorious and honorary work the team was awarded with the Presidents Medal.Dr. Pravin Mhatre also attended similar camps arranged by Lions club and Rotary club all over India.

Keeping with the social responsibility Dr. Pravin Mhatre and his team has performed all the Ovarian transplants free without any monitory considerations. This was his gift back to the society.

Dr. Pravin Mhatre has a long and distinguished record of success as a scholar, teacher, educator and researcher. A perusal of his CV demonstrates a consistent and high level of scholarly activity including research, publications, presentations, teaching and service. In summary Dr. Pravin Mhatre has made unusual and outstanding contributions to the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology.

On the basis of these accomplishments and the expectation of his continuing to bring positive reputation to the institute, it is felt that Dr. Pravin Mhatre is highly qualified for appointment as Professor Emeritus at Seth G.S. Medical College, K.E.M. Hospital and NowrosjeeWadia Hospital.
