Biography: Dr. Al-Hazzaa was an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, U.S.A., in 2003-2009 (first Saudi Female Physician from the Middle East). She became a member of the Editorial Board of the Saudi Journal of Ophthalmology in 1997 and then became the Associate Editor in 1998-2008 (first female physician). She was also a member of the Editorial Board of the prestigious "Ophthalmic Genetics" Journal in the USA in 1997-2005. Dr. Al-Hazzaa was the Assistant Editor of the "Middle East Journal of Ophthalmology" from 1992-1996 (first female physician). She is on the Editorial Board of the "Archives of Ophthalmology," since 2005. Dr. Al-Hazzaa is a Professor of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, Al-Faisal University in 2011 (first female physician). She was appointed by King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia on January 11, 2013, among 30 women as a member to the Majlis Al-Shura (Saudi Parliament) in a historical move, allowing women for the first time to be part of the kingdoms formal advisory body.
