Dr V O Mabayoje qualified as a consultant Haematologist in 2001 and was immediately appointed lecturer at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso and consultant haematologist at the LAUTECH teaching hospital, Osogbo. In 2004 he was appointed as senior lecturer and in 2010 as an Associate Professor. From 2010- till date, he is working as Project co-ordinator of the action programme on HIV aimed at the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDs. He has served as secretary of LAUTECH oncology group, president of the sickle cell club and acting dean faculty of basic medical sciences. He is also on the editorial board of HIV journals including Mathews journal of HIV and AIDS. His research Interests is mainly focused on viral co-infection with HIV especially the hepatitis viruses and their effects on the hepatic and skeletal systems, and also interested in the epidemiology of HIV in environment and have several publications on both areas. He aims to eventually introduce the mandatory screening of HBV, HCV, HEV once a patient has tested positive for HIV as they tend to ‘travel’ together though some have preferred routes eg HCV is transmitted more efficiently via needles.
