Title: Isolation of Microalgae from waste water for nutrient removal and biomass production.

The increase in pollution, industrialization, detection of new pollutants imposes severe risk to availability and quality of water resources. Microalgae cultivation in waste water provides viable option to treat waste water and to recover the contained nutrient while producing valuable biomass. In addition, biomass produce can be used for beneficial purpose such as fertilizer, biodiesel production, and nanomaterial synthesis. This study investigates the nutrient removal help of microalgae isolated from municipal waste water. The microalgae was maintained in axenic culture by sub culturing and streaking on BG-11 supplemented with 2% agar provided with 16:8 light and dark cycles at 25°C. The isolated algae were cultivated in primary and secondary treated water. The effluent treatment efficiency was determined by measuring biological demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus before and after the treatment. Biomass obtained by cultivating in primary water was 0.98g/L, in secondary water 0.83g/L which were higher than the cultivation in control 0.51g/L Lipid produced in the primary and secondary treated was compared with control and followed by transesterification for GC-MS characterization. The fatty acid profile obtained showed availability for biodiesel production as well as nutraceuticals. Thus, we are proposing an integrated technique for low cost algal lipid production along with primary and secondary sewage water treatment for recycle process.
